How do I know if ChatGPT mentions my business?
Ask it. Run twenty questions a real buyer would type across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode, and record who gets named. Run each question more than once, because retrieval is not deterministic and the same prompt can return different sources.
Why there is no rank tracker for this
Retrieval is probabilistic. Ask the same question twice and you can get different sources, so any tool promising a fixed position in an AI answer is describing something these systems do not do.
What is measurable is citation share: across a fixed question set, run on a fixed schedule, how often you appear and who appears instead. That is a trend line rather than a rank, and it is the honest version of the metric.
What to record
Whether you are named at all, which competitors are named instead, and which third-party pages get cited as the source. That last one matters most — the pages cited are frequently not your pages, and they are where the next piece of work is.
Also ask each system directly what your company does. If the description is wrong, thin or missing, the problem is entity clarity and third-party mentions rather than your on-page copy.
Check the crawlers are not blocked first
Before drawing conclusions from an absence, check robots.txt for GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended and Bingbot. Blocking them is common and usually accidental — and a blocked crawler produces exactly the same symptom as a weak link profile.
